INTRODUCING LATAKIA
GOVERNORATE
Latakia governorate occupies an important area of the
Syrian coast, it extends over 80 kms on the Eastern
Mediterranean Coast, starting from the Syrian-Turkish
borders in the North to the borders of Tartous in the
South. It shares the borders of Hama, Edlib and
Tartous.
The population of Latakia is about one million
inhabitants, it occupies an area of about 230 000
hectares . It is linked with the outer world by sea
via Latakia Port through import, export and transporting
cargoes and passengers. It is also connected through
roads via Turkey, and by air through Al-Bassel
International Airport. Latakia is linked with the other
governorates of Syria through a net of modern highways
and rail roads to transport passengers and cargoes. As
from the administrative distributing point of view,
Latakia combines 120 administrative units and 18 suburb,
4 areas and 4 cities.
